MTE Consultants is a multidisciplinary engineering firm providing services in civil and structural engineering, building and environmental science, toxicology and land surveying. Throughout MTE’s history, we have developed a reputation as a company that cares about our communities. In keeping with that caring history, we have chosen to put a focus on environmental sustainability for our corporate operations and are encouraging our staff to do the same in their daily routines.

Throughout 2022, MTE’s Burlington Green Team has been strategically planning and evaluating our path toward reducing our carbon emissions and achieving our 10% absolute reduction target by 2031. With a focus on transportation, our efforts are directed toward implementing sustainable business travel programs.
Our Green Team was also focused on waste diversion. We conducted an analysis of our waste streams and pinpointed inefficiencies. As a result, new recycling and composting programs have been implemented at our Burlington office, diverting waste and organic materials from landfills. Our team also participated in a clean-up of Confederation Beach Park in Hamilton. Together we removed a large amount of litter that was disrupting the wildlife of the park.

MTE has continued to prioritize sustainability throughout 2021. Green Teams have been established in each office, with team members who are focused and passionate about preserving and maintaining the environment.
After sending our carbon emissions data to Sustainability Leadership, we have received our greenhouse gas inventory report and set carbon emissions reduction targets accordingly. Our Burlington office has set a 10% absolute reduction target by 2031. We are committed to diligently adjusting our business operations in response to this set target. MTE has developed a corporate sustainability policy for practices across the all geographies and sectors of the company. In order to ensure each office has local support throughout our journey towards environmental sustainability, we have become members of Green Economy London, Sustainable Waterloo Region, and Sustainable Hamilton Burlington.
We hired our first sustainability focused employee and have established Green Teams in each office so that our initiatives remain staff driven and focused on making operational changes that are specific to each individual office. Our Burlington team has decided to concentrate their efforts on carbon reduction and we are in the process of tracking our output to establish a baseline to set targets from.

In 2019, MTE made the decision to develop a formal and company-wide focus on environmental sustainably. MTE has developed a corporate mandate for sustainable practices across the all geographies and sectors of the company.
